After talking to some friends the other day, I realized that I never explained this new adventure that our family is on. I will take just a moment to give you the abbreviated version.
About six months ago the University of Louisville purchased a private pediatrician's office in Campbellsville KY. The only pediatrician in town had been trying to sell the practice for years with no success. His plans were to close it, leaving the town with no pediatrician. This also affected the only hospital in the region as he was the pediatrician who attended the high risk deliveries, admitted kids to the hospital, and once admitted, he was the only attending who provided for their healthcare.
Until U of L could find a permanent doctor to take the position, they offered the opportunity for their physicians to go down for a few weeks at a time. Steve thought it sounded fun and wanted the experience of "rural" medicine. I wanted hardwood floors. Sounds shallow, but true. He assured me that after taxes and tithes, we could spend the rest on hardwood floors. For those of you who follow my blog, you've read about this before! Anyway, he spent September in Campbellsville and although it was a challenge, he loved it. He enjoyed the patients, the staff, and the work. At the end of the month he told me that U of L offered him the job. Evidently, Campbellsville liked Steve as much as he liked Campbellsville and had called Steve's program director. He told me and I laughed...until I saw his face.
When I realized Steve was seriously considering this offer, I told him I would pray about it. If the Lord is calling us to Campbellsville, then we needed to go. My prayer was that the Lord would make this decision crystal clear to me. He did. Within seven days I knew the answer. I will tell you that I am going out of obedience to the Lord. Sometimes our emotions are not going to preceed our actions. In other words, we may be called to do something we don't want to do.
Everything has happened so quickly. Our home sold in 13 days. We have purchased a new home in Campbellsville. We will move December 28th. Steve begins work there on January 1st as Medical Director of UCHS-Campbellsville. Joshua will begin his new school on January 4th. And I will be busy unpacking boxes and hanging pictures.
Six months ago it never entered my mind that we would welcome in the new year in a new home in a new town!
