Mini-trip

Steve had a few days off so we went to Northern KY for a couple of days. One of the places we visited was Totter's Otterville. This was a terrific place hidden in the mountains. It has no web page and does no marketing. That is partly what makes it so nice, it was a small town, hands-on, interactive play-land for kids. Everything including an Animal Hospital, a grocery store, water tables, a dinosaur dig, a construction zone, ballet studio, a fishing pond and more provided hours of enjoyment for our family!

Potty Time!

One week ago I decided it was time to potty train Katherine, she turned two in April. The plan was to give it a try for a few days and see if she was ready. She was. Although she is still having many accidents, we have decreased from 7 to 4 pair of panties a day and I have not changed a dirty diaper in a week!

Can of 409 carpet cleaner $4.50
Package of very small panties $6.00
Package of pull-ups $15.00
A potty-trained 2 year old-priceless!

I believe we can always learn, there is always room for improvement. Although I have potty-trained two other childen I have learned so much more with Katherine:

1. Never put your toddler down for a nap in the Cool-Alert Pull-Ups. Evidently they get very very cold when the child urinates, which is a terrible way to be woke up from a nap.

2. Have a key to your children's rooms. Day two of potty training: Katherine is in little girl panties for the first time. She is playing in Lydia's room when Lydia decided to lock her door and close it behind her as she exited the room. One hour later Steve arrived and was able to get the door unlocked (she still had dry panties!)

3. Children can survive on suckers for breakfast...4 days in a row now...

This has been a successful first week, but we have many more to go. I think the keys to potty-training are time (Katherine went to the bathroom 9 times in the past 60 minutes) and patience.

Joshua turns six!

Joshua is 6 years old! Now that he is six, he really wanted to have a "friend" party so we celebrated his birthday at the Louisville Nature Center. The party included animals brought over from the zoo...an elephant and lion.

Just kidding, however, there really were animals from the zoo, a rabbit and a turtle. After some time for the kids to play with the animals, his friends had the opportunity to go on a guided hike through Beargrass Creek State Park. This was followed by cake and ice cream.
